Eat like a local in Bath

Bath has a wide variety of places to eat and like most cities in the UK you will find plenty of chain restaurants around Bath. However where would a local Bathonian recommend? Here are some suggestions of perhaps lesser known eateries to visit!


Breakfast: Start the day off well


Thoughtful Bakery

This homely bakery offers a wide range of breakfast options and is tucked behind the main high street. Make sure to choose a dish with some form of bread/toast as it is made on site. They also offer a wide variety of pastries and cakes. You can eat in or takeaway!

The Fine Cheese Company

This café is quirky and serves high quality food. Perfect for a cooked option or a pastry and a coffee. Their freshly squeezed orange juice is a great way to kick off the day. Why not visit the cheese shop whilst you’re there!

Coffee: Take a break

Mokoko

This café is perfectly placed to give you a break from shopping or sightseeing. If you are lucky enough to bag a table by the window you get a lovely view of the Pump Room and Abbey Courtyard. There are a selection of cakes and of course, coffee!

The Columbian Company

Nestled in the centre of Bath is this gem, ready to provide you with great coffee. You can always take-away if you want to keep on the move! It's really small but don't let that put you off. Really friendly and Spanish speakers too.

Café Lucca / The Loft

Café Lucca is situated at the top of town near the Assembly Rooms. It's a beautiful light café with a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy their high-quality food, such as delicious ciabattas or ‘proper’ salads.

The Whole Bagel

If you are pushed for time or would like to have lunch alfresco (Parade Gardens are only a short walk away) why not visit this independent bagel shop. The staff are friendly and accommodating. You can watch your bagel being made! They never skimp on the fillings and it beats a shop bought sandwich every time.

Afternoon Tea: Time for a treat


The Pump Room

The Pump Room is renowned for their class, elegance and prestige and it does not disappoint. Enjoy a traditional English Afternoon Tea with sandwiches, scones, little cakes and plenty of tea (or champagne). Often there is live classical music which creates a lovely atmosphere.

Aqua

Aqua has a friendly atmosphere and is a good place to have your evening meal. Great selection of food and is fairly priced. You can book a table in advance, perfect ahead of exploring the city at night.

Sotto Sotto

This is a unique Italian restaurant, situated underground near the Roman Baths. You must book in advance, as it is extremely popular!
